Oasis vs Beady Eye vs Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds

The Gallagher brothers are best known for being the brothers from Manchester band Oasis. Since they have fallen out I thought it would be a good idea to put them head to head since their little tiff.

The fight is simple, Beady Eye vs Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds. The two brothers have come up with new bands for themselves. Beady Eye so far being the more eye catching. My brother has bought their new album after seeing them live and really enjoying the new sound.

I heard Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds new single this morning and I wasnt really impressed. It seemed a little dull and I dont think its going to be the sort of sound to carry us through the next generation of music. When Oasis were falling apart (their last album or two) I started to think there sound was a little dated. However, Beady Eye has a fresh sound, with most probably a bigger backing, with the same attitude as Oasis due to Liam’s presence.

Unfortunately there is only one winner, and that is Oasis. I dont think either of them are going to top it. There is some hope for Beady Eye, but I can see them just being a one album band.

Oasis to reform in 2020.

Listen To One Of Your Favourite Songs Every Morning

I think all of us can agree that music can be very powerful and influence our mood. I read an article the other week which stated that its important to listen to your favourite songs on the way to work to make you feel more positive through the day. Listening to our favourite songs in the mornings mean we start our day off in the right mood.

Yesterday I listened to Radiohead followed by Underworld on the way to work. These two bands are completely different to one another, I would describe Radiohead as chilled and Underworld as dance. Radiohead woke me from my sleep on the bus to work, then ‘Two Months Off’ by Underworld pumped me up for the working day ahead of me. I was in such a good mood from it, its like I had just left a disco. Maybe that is the effect of dance music.

Next time you are driving to work, maybe consider switching off Radio 1 and instead put in a CD or cassette which has music on which either brings a smile to your face or makes you happy.

Rebirth Of Gigs For Death In Vegas

Do you ever have that moment when you hear about a gig which is announced that makes you so happy? This happened to me last week when I found out that tickets for Death In Vegas were going on sale last Friday. Death In Vegas were formed in 1994 and are a psychedelic rock band. With 5 albums and a hole host of banging tunes the gig at Manchester Club Academy on the 9th December 2011 is going to be explosive.

Some of their biggest records to date are Dinge, Dirt, Girls, Hands Around My Throat and All That Glitters. With tickets for the Manchester show totalling up at about £16 a ticket. I cant recommend the gig more highly.

Death In Vegas haven’t released an album for the best part of 7 years and come September 2011 the rebirth begins when the new album Trans-Love Energies is released.

Everyone Is Breaking The Law

It was in the news last week that apparently everyone is breaking the law when it comes to the law surrounding music. It has come to the attention of certain officials that the law is somewhat out of date due to technology advancing. This is something that I have known for a long time. It is the same with DVD’s at the start of any DVD, the copyright law states that the DVD can not been shown or lent to any friend other than the person who bought the DVD. This means that if I buy a DVD from the shop, nobody can watch it with me and I can only watch it alone as nobody else owns the DVD.

Its also the same when people used to record the top 40 singles chart onto a cassette to listen back to another time. This is in fact illegal. As is making a mix tape for you and your friends to listen to at a house party.

Its this kind of nonsense that really does make me laugh. Stupid outdated laws which need to be banished not edited.

Cloud 9 Music Festival Review

Following on from a previous blog post some time ago, I thought it was only right to give you all my thoughts about Cloud 9 festival 2011 in Sandbach. I bought a ticket through Groupon making a relatively cheap festival even cheaper at £20. A great price considering it also included camping.

So how was it? Well for me it wasnt all about the music, it was about getting back into camping again. Having not camped for 3 years I adapted myself back into it with pure ease. My test was up within 5 minutes and I had a cider in my hand in no time at all.

The highlight for me was the DJ tent between the two main acts of Ed Sheeram and The Futureheads. Some massive tunes were coming out from the DJ decks and I would be quite interested to know who was spinning the decks. My highlight was probably hearing Air – Sexy Boy. A song which went down a treat.

The festival is by no means Glastonbury, its a small festival with an attendance of probably 1500-2000 people. None the less, everyone was in happy spirits and I would recommend it in an instant.

Cloud 9 Line Up, Sandbach Festival

There are many festivals going on this summer, ranging from Glastonbury to V, Leeds to Oxegen. There are plenty of big festivals in the UK, Europe and all around the world. But what about the smaller and less known festivals. I’ve recently been looking into some smaller festivals where I came across Cloud 9 festival in Sandbach. The line up doesn’t look bad either, with bands such as The Futureheads, Ed Sheeran, The Sunshine Underground and Clint Boon all named. The festival is on the 6th August and one nights camping is available. Ideal for a short little festival, or if you fancy enjoying a day and night of live music.

The event is sponsored by Topman and CALM. CALM is a charity which raise awareness of depression and suicide in young men. A great charity and another reason to get yourself down to this event. Whichever festival you go to this summer, enjoy yourselves and stay safe.

Codes and Keys Review – Death Cab For Cutie

There is nothing like the first listen of a new album. Whether its Radiohead, Chemical Brothers, Lady Gaga or Kyle. Its always interesting to make a note of the tracks that stand out to you on that first listen of the album, track by track, start to finish.

Im a big fan of the American band ‘Death Cab For Cutie’. They have a backlog of albums, this being their 7th released album entitled ‘Codes and Keys’.

As the first few tracks reeled off I have to say I was not all that impressed. The first track which really stood out was ‘Unobstructed Views’. The track had a rather energetic sound to it. As I listened to the rest of the album one or two tracks seemed to have some potential. The main track being St. Peters Cathedral. I had a quick look for a Codes and Keys review of the album and according to the Death Cab For Cutie official site, the album has received some high praise. The majority of the praise has gone towards the track ‘St Peters Cathedral’ and its fair to say that might be track of the album.

Death Cab For Cutie are currently touring, gigging in Manchester in July 2011.

Radio One At Work – Why Is This Considered Neutral?

I have been working at my current job for 6 months, I enjoy the job wholeheartedly but there is one thing I have noticed which really is quite bizarre. In the early stages of working full time here I noticed we have the radio on, something which many employers consider acceptable when working in an office. However, the choice of music is BBC Radio One. The question I pose to you is why? I asked some of my friends who have similar job roles at other companies and the answer was pretty standard. “Yes, we listen to Radio One. Its so that nobody is offended by one persons choice of music”. OK, when did Radio One become neutral?

Id prefer it to have one persons music selection each day or week. I know this has space to have heavy rock and offensive language so I can almost accept why its not OK. But cmon, have you heard what is blasted out on Radio One? Chris Moyles and his awful conversations, going on and on about absolutely nothing. And dont get me started on Radio One news… Utter trash!

Whats wrong with XFM? Smooth FM? Even Key 103? Id rather have local or pirate radio that Radio One. Lets start the backlash against streaming BBC Radio One in every workplace.

Win London iTunes Festival 2011 Tickets

Its June and therefore everyone is starting to talk about this years festivals a bit more seriously. With tickets going on sale earlier and earlier these days its hard to plan which festival to go to as its so far in advance. Glastonbury announce their ticket details almost a year before the event itself. Personally I find this rather ridiculous as no acts are announced until months later.

I myself have now started looking at who is where this summer. Not just for festivals but also for gigs. I had a quick look on Moby’s website to find he was playing at the London iTunes festival 2011. When I went to look at the line up and ticket prices I found that it is completely free and also that all you have to do is click which bands you want to see and enter a competition. Not bad hey!

Just enter ‘iTunes festival 2011′ into Google and you can do the same! Enjoy the summer!!
